Volunteers feeding people experiencing homelessness who were living in the area first reported the incident to Daily Voice.
The unidentified man was found deceased in a tent during a welfare check near the encampment by Front and Sycamore streets in Harrisburg, police told Daily Voice on Thursday afternoon.
The volunteers were unable to go into the makeshift city to distribute food due to the police activity, after the man was found, a leader of the volunteer group said.
The man's death is not considered a homicide or suspicious, police told Daily Voice.
His body has been turned over to the Dauphin County coroner's office for an autopsy and his next-of-kin will be notified, according to the police.
